Showers - how do you fit them?
Question:I have a combi boiler and a bath fitted at the minute. I was going to have an electric shower wired in, but a friend tells me a mixer shower wouldn't need an electric feed.
Is it just a case of running the pipes up into the unit of do you need a secondary cold water line?
Answers:
You can fix a mixer shower from the existing supply pipes to the bath but with a combi boiler the cold must come off the mains as well. You may find that you have to fit a pressure reduction valve if the incoming cold is too powerful and also a set of non return valves. A thermostatic shower control is best as it will give a stable running temperature if other water usage occurs while the shower is in use. I often use push fit fittings and have had no problems at all. Much easier than trying to solder or tighten joints with spanners. If you choose an electric shower then you will have a back up when the combi goes wrong.
mixer showers work off perssure , water forced up and out of the pipe ,elc showers works with a pump , hire a plumber , cost about $150 to install a pipe from your bath tub ,take about 2 hours, depending on the tiles, sheet rock etc. cheaper than a elc one
I have a similar set-up, you should be able to 'T' directly into hot & cold feed to your bath taps.
