With dowels in top and bottom of "hinged" side of door. Blind hole in top of unit to accept top dowel. Blind hole in bottom of unit to accept bottom dowel. A sloping groove leading down to the bottom blind hole. When this arrangement is done correctly you simply insert the top dowel on door into the top blind hole and with the door at a slight angle feed the bottom dowel into the sloping groove until it locates into the bottom blind hole. Holes/dowels have to be correct length so that when bottom dowel locates in hole, top dowel can't come out of top hole. If anyone has bothered to read this, lol..it really is an amazing way to hang doors. I have seen it on oriental furniture..no hinges :-)

Why would you want to ? Unless its a pocket door,theres no point.
The door you describe would have to be a sliding door such as a pocket door
only a slide door will do then...because without hinges - your door wont open and close!

These doors would have a pin in the bottom of the door and a spring loaded top hardware piece. Depending on the weight of the door and whether it was commercial use or home use you may want to spend $60 to $l00 for the hardware. There is also a two pin hinge that is spring loaded and allows light weight doors to swing in and out.
There are also "hidden" hinges. They are normally used on cabinetry.

the ancients used leather strips. bit of a bind opening and closing the door but it works, or a pivot door quite common here in Egypt comes from pre pharaonic times .the new type is spring loaded in the door itself ie banks and public buildings glass doors etc, or a roller door.
