Replacing double hung window w/ stationery one- brick house...?
Question:We are removing a large wood double hung and replacing it w/ a stationery, all one piece glass window. Had a professional come out to measure. Window is here. We know that after removing the inside molding (done) and brick mold, we take a reciprocating saw and go around it to cut the old nails holding it in place.
How do we install the new one since it is not a double hung? It came w/ detailed instructions- you know the type that are so "detailed" they make no sense once you have completed a project and then read them? LOL
The instructions with the window say to use some type of clip but it really isn't clear on how you use these clips.
This was a large, custom window (read costly) so we need to save $ by installing it ourselves- of course we are only saving if we manage to do it properly!
Answers:
These "clips" should probably be screwed to the outside of the unit in prescribed areas using appropriate length screws which should be provided. The ends of the clips should be exposed on the RO when the unit is set in the hole. They can be screwed into the RO or can be bent over and screwed into the face of the wall depending on where you want the unit to set from inside to outside.
You can Email me if your still confused, not certain if this answered your question, hope so.
Best thing to do is go to your local lumberyard for advice. They'll know exactly what you're talking about. Menards, Home Depot, or Lowes will be able to help too. It's too difficult, here, to walk someone through the various steps on a keyboard. Good luck.
