What is a good all purpose crimping tool?
Question:Where can I find one? It would be particularly useful if it could - say - crimp an amphenol pin to a tungsten wire.
Answers:
no one tool is an all purpose crimpin tool. all crimps are not the same and are manufactured to be crimped by a certain type of crimper. any one that uses only one as stated above are not doin the job properly. my suggestion is buy the ones you will be usin the most and pick the others up as you need them. im not tryin to be smart about this question just givin you the facts
Unfortunately, there are so many different types of crimp connectors, that, no one tool could take care of the majority. Most amphenol type pin crimpers only have 2 or 3 die sets for as many sizes, and they can range from 26 guage to 6 guage. I have 1 toolbox that has nothing but crimping tools in it, ( probably 30 or more ). Your best bet is to try to determine what sizes and types of crimps you will commonly make and start by collecting those sets. Of course you will eventually run into a connector that doesn't fit your tools and it's back to the store to buy one that does. Just a word from the wise, don't buy the kind of plier sets that you can change the die blocks, you'll never keep track of them all.
I know- you could use something that involves electromagnetic forming. There is a Wikipedia article on it. I really don't understand it; you might though. go to Wikipedia and type in "electromagnetic forming" and it will bring you to that page.
I use my needle nose pliers for everything.they are great!
