What is the best cement mix when re-pointing a wall?

Question:

Answers:
All the answers will be fine ( 3 sand 1 cement ) but unless you want your pointing to stand out like a sore thumb try making up three v/small mixes of 3&1, 4&1, 5&1 then check for colour suitability. Also when you do the pointing squeeze a "shot" of washing up liquid into your mix, and be sure to take your time.

Three of soft sand to one of cement. Three and a half to one is easier to handle, but tends to fall out.
3 sand 1 cement 1 suirt of febmix to make it fatty
best mix for making a plaster wall is 1 part cement to 2 parts fine sand.

after plastering it to your existing wall. mix a pure cement and finish your plaster with that mixture then wipe with foam to smoothen. or you can even use a news paper.

just make sure you put nylon lines on your edges to serve as guide.

and dont mix too many water.

hope this helps.
3 or 4 to 1 as above, but that is assuming you have medium porocity brick with about a 10mm mortar line. It would vary for harder bricks, stone or differrent pointing gaps.

but if its an old wall you would be best considering a natural hydraulic lime mix rather than cement, it will allow the wall to breathe.
3 sand one cement and a squirt of fairy liquid in the water, makes it far easier to use.
