Cal. King boxspring?
Question:I have a California King Bed, and the box springs broke when I was moving.
The bed currently sits on the ground, but I'd like to get it off the ground and make a "boxspring" for it strictly out of wood.
Any ideas for a make shift boxspring? I've even thought about milk crates.
Thanks in advance for any help and ideas you can offer.
Answers:
I used milk crates (bought legally from an out-of-business milk crate place) - the 'box springs' have not needed the springs there in awhile and now most places will just sell you a 'riser'. I had some Katrina dislocated folks staying with me last year and just made risers from some 'X' shaped pieces of 1x10 (notched to fit togteher to make an X that stands up) - you can use most sturdy surplus wood you have around. And a sheet of 3/4" inexpensive plywood or strand board to go on top to support the mattress. I put a bed skirt around the whole thing so it didn't look too shop-class. Just make sure you have enough support across the middle for the mattress. (I walked on mine and ajusted the 'X's so it wasn't tippy.
