Priming Hot Tub?

Question:I just recently got a used hot tub and its in good shape except for the paint. I went to HomeDepot and got some paint and Primer. I really just want to paint the tub and start enjoying it. My question is must I sand all the paint and then primer it or can i just go ahead and primer on top of the old paint.

Answers:
What kind of material is it? You need a special paint for fiberglass or wood that is going to be under water. Check with a hot tub place as to what they recommend.

The old coat must be completely prepped and free of contamination.

if the paint is peeling, it must be scrapped off then sanded. if it just looks bad i would lightly sand it, make sure it is clean of all dust and debris before you primer and paint.
