What kind of solder do I need for smal circuit board stuff?
Question:I am soldering very small 0603 SMDs to some kynar wire and also direct onto sicuit board in places. I am using a fine tip 15w soldering iron.
My main questions are
1. which type of solder do i use?
2. which grade of kynar wire is good?
3. Is it better to use flux when doing small work like this?
best answer chosen as always, many thanks!:p

If it's only for home use, use 60/40 Tin/Lead solder. If it's for commercial use you'll have to use lead free solder instead. Both types are available as Rosin multi-core (Rosin is the flux that's built into the solder itself) so you don't need any additional flux. Saying that, get hold of some solder flux in paste form, adding a tiny 'smear' to the wire end before soldering makes soldering it a doddle.
If you use rosin core solder, you should be ok.
Just see what Radio Shack has to offer to wire your LED SMDs.
You're not building anything for a rocket ship, so about anything Radio Shack has should do you.
Maplins UK sell high tin resin cored solder for circuit boards, not necessary to use extra flux
