I can only get lukewarm water from my new mixer shower. What could be the problem?
Question:I just had a new bathroom installed by some Polish bathroom fitters. Although the hot water from the taps is very hot, only tepid water comes from the shower - even when it is set to full hot. If I hold the shower head down in the bath the water gets warmer.
I have a traditional gravity fed sytem with hot water tank on the same level as the bathroom (upstairs). The hot water is set to 65 degrees.
I noticed when the shower was being installed that the plumber has connected the cold supply from my old electric shower to the new mixer shower. This cold supply comes down from the ceiling. A new pipe has been made for the hot water which comes up from the bath hot water tap. I'm not sure if this is causing the hot and cold supplies to be unbalanced and this is the problem. The mixer shower is a Mira Gem for balanced pressure systems (which I thought mine was).
Can anyone suggest an easy way to remedy this that doesn't involve taking the new tiles off the wall if possible?

Your problem is most likely the setting of you anti-scald device under the handle of your valve. There are as many different devices as there are brands but they all work by limiting the amount of travel of the handle in the "HOT" direction. You should call your "Polish bathroom fitters" back and have them set it correctly for you.
However, if you wish to do it yourself and the book for the shower valve is available, read and use it to reset the limiter. If not, then remove the handle and trim (if necessary) to get to the limiter. It usually looks like two toothed plastic rings, one inside the other. To adjust, stick the handle back on and, with the water shut off else where so you don't get wet, rotate the handle to see how it (the limiter) operates and adjust it until the handle moves further to the "HOT" direction. When you have it figured out, turn the water back on and set the handle to the hottest position. Readjust the limiter until you have the temperature available you desire. Remember though that these devices are intended to keep you safe in the event that the handle accidentally gets turned to the hottest position unintentionally. If you can't stand it on the inside of your wrist, it is too hot.
Well, since you had it professionally installed, they are liable to fix your problem.
its your water heater.
thats all.
check the ihside of the mixer vavle. there should be an adjustment for the antiscald device that will allow you to raise the amount of hot water that will pass the vavle.
I agree the first thing you want to check is the antiscald setting on the mixer. If it is turned down low you will not get enough hot water coming through there. The next thing to check is your hot water heater, 65 degrees? I believe 120 degrees is the standard and mine is set at 140 degrees.
Have the new hot supply checked. It might be that they installed a shut off in the line from the "under sink" supply. If this is not the problem, the answer on how to adjust your temp setting on the controler was excellent.
I would say there are several good answerer's here and I would think that if you didn't have a problem before the new faucet was installed it would have to be a temp stop that you should be able to adjust. I install moen faucets and they have what is called a pressure balance posi temp shower faucet and it is just a matter of taking the handle off and setting a plastic ring that will stop the rotation of the handle to the temperate that is comfortable for you. I personally explain to my customer's and tell them that if they want to use it this is how to use it if not throw it away. I am not familiar with the type of faucet you have but like the others have said you should be able to find a temp control on it weather it be a screw adjustment or a ring type that will stop the rotation of the handle. One way for sure is go to the faucets web page and they most likely have some sort of owner manual you can look at if you don't have yours.
One other thing your anti scald is just another name meaning pressure balance. example toilet flushes it will automatically drop the pressure of the hot water to match the pressure of the cold so you don't get scalded. Posi temp is you set the temp to your liking.
