I need help connecting my generator to our house?
Question:Our generator has a L6-20 connector on it, but we have a Gen-Tran 20216 box in our house that the generator should plug into, but the Gen-Tran box has a L14-20 connector on it. So is there a way I can get my 3 prong generator plug into my 4 prong transfer switch?
Answers:
After being an electrician for 15 years, and installing quite a few generators, I have learned something. It is best to have a qualified electrician do this. The problem is, if the generator is not properly hooked up, and you lose power, and a lineman from the power company gets hit from a back feed from your generator, you can(and most likely will) be sued!!
In Florida, about 20 linemen a year get hurt from home gen's, and the homeowner is held responsible.
I would suggest that e- mail me, and I'll give my phone # in order to help you with this.
While flow testing oil wells I was forced to buy an adapter from a local supplier so my camper would hook up to the rental generator.
You should be able to find an adapter.
