I want to make a cat house/scratch post for our cats. I need to know a few things..?
Question:Home Depot will have all the supplies that is right? Wood is obvious, but what about small patches of carpet I can staple, or glue, or nail, to the wood? Im not sure the best way to do that. Is it easy to cut carpet? Should I get a good glue maybe? Perhaps nails especially for joining the wood. Hm. Thanks for any help.

you can save you self time ( and the pain of a big splinter) by buying one instead
You are better off w/nails or brads. Heck you can hang sample squares on the wall and save buying the wood!! Check your local carpet store dumpster or even better catch one that's closing their business!!
I would say just buy one, by the time you buy your supplies and the time you spend, you can buy one with just as much money.. I think you can get them at wal mart or a pet supply store for around 10-15 bucks. you'll spend that much on gas alone...
First off. Shame on You I heart and Pappy.
This is a Do It Yourself forum.
Yes. HD will have all you need. I`m with Pappy on this somewhat `tho. Brads and small nails are best as long as the heads are big enough to not go through the carpet. Also dumpsters behind a carpet store are Great places to find scraps! Or if you see a carpet layer`s truck somewhere ask `em. They`ll be Happy to get rid of all they got. Saves them the trouble. Don`t be expecting any bathroom or closet sizes `tho.
On the Other hand Pappy, I don`t think I`d want My cats climbing up my walls. I`d be Joining them soon (:>
Good Luck with it! As the saying goes: "You can Do it. We can Help".
I know what a scratch post is, but I'm confused on the cat house. Is that like a dog house? I never knew of a cat using a cat house! But, since you asked, the best way to cut carpeting is from the back. Use a utility knife and a straight edge. To fasten it to the post, you can use carpet tape,(it is two faced, like some mother-in laws) or buy a tube of construction adhesive and a caulk gun. The construction adhesive can also be used to hold the wood together, plus a few small finish nails.
You said our "cats". Huh, I have at least 15-20 kittens from my harum. All outside cats. Each spring, I build a playground for the kittens with anything I have laying around. A 5' length of 4" PVC pipe, a piece of plywood nailed to two small posts, leaving the plywood about 1" off the ground, a teeter totter about 4' long, a king of the mountain carpet pyramid, and naturally a scratching post which they like to climb and then jump on the other kittens. All good fun.
