Replacing Black and Decker battery?
Question:I live in the UK. I have a cordless black and decker dust buster vacuum cv 9605. the battery (9.6 V) is dead and i would like to replace it. I removed the battery module and unfortunately it doesn't have any identifying number. How can i get a replacement battery ? i am not successful on ebay, maybe i am not using the correct search terms? Any help will be much appeciated. It would be such a waste to throw the vacuum away just becuase of the battery.

I also had one of these and replaced the batteries (NiCad) with some Metal-Ni-hydride ones. They work even better than before since they do not have memory. Try and buy those with tags for soldering so you don't damage them with the heat. Otherwise, ordinary one will do if you are careful and quick with the iron. Get the polarity right.
P.S. Matt is right if it's only £19. You can get the replacement at http://www.blackanddeckerspares.com/stor...
but they are £38! My solution cost me much less than that.
GO TO ONE OF THE BATTERY WORLD PLACES OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. OR IF YOU ARE HANDY, YOU CAN OPEN IT UP AND REPLACE THE 1.2VOLT CELLS INSIDE. OTHER WISE THE BATTERY SHOP CAN DO IT FOR U. NOT TOO CHEAP THO
I hate to say this, but it will probably be cheaper to replace the vacuum. I used to work in a store that sold B&D power tools. If the batteries weren't from the newest model then they cost more than a new tool. Replacement batteries are not a commonly stocked item so they are never on sale. There is however, an incentive to maintain low prices on complete units. A new 9.6V dustbuster costs about 15 pounds. If you can't find the battery locally, then by the time you pay for shipping you would probably spend that much and still have a used vacuum.
My inclination, like alonso, would be to replace with a nim-h battery pack. Heres a link to batteries.

Remove your current battery pack, seems its an 8 cell unit. Using the specifications in the link, Diameter/Length find your replacement cells, work out the costings. make your decision. Simple job to re-make i guess..
