I have a rusty toilet tank should i replace it?

Question:it makes my toilet bowl rusty

Answers:
No. Turn off the water to the tank, flush the toilet and then clean the rust out of the tank. Use Lime-Away and a brush to clean the rust out of the bowl itself. Buy Vanish or other brand drop-ins at your favorite store. Follow the directions on the box. You have to put one in the tank every so often. That should keep your bowl clean.

The tank is not the problem.
The bolts that hold the tank to the wall or to the toilet base are rusted.
Add something like CLR to the tank & bowl to get rid of the rust.
If it is not leaking anywhere It will buy you some time before the hardware gives out & you will need to replace it.
At that point it is a good idea to change out the flush mechanism & any washers or seals as well..
Best regards
my understanding is that a rusty toilet is caused by rusty (failing) water pipes. if that's the case, you will need to have them replaced.
Most often rust in the toilet tank is caused by mineral deposits (usually Iron) in the water itself. Your toilet bowl has a different enamel coating on the china then the tank does, and therefore the water has a more difficult time staining the bowl then the tank-which is much more porous then the bowl. American Standard has a special coating on all their new china fixtures which is supposed to help prevent staining.

You don't need to replace your tank unless the rust color bothers you.
Replace the whole toilet, but the rust isn't coming from the toilet. Find the source of the rust and fix it before the replacement, or the problem will return.
