Will my shower explode?
Question:My electric shower has a cord switch that you need to pull by the bathroom door that needs to be pulled/switched on before I can get hot water from the shower. I have just gone away for a week and think I may have left it on! Can anyone tell me if this is dangerous and I need to go home and check?!
PS. the water for the rest of the house is heated separately.

If the actual shower is turned off, and there is no water passing through then it is quite safe. The switch that you are referring to is an isolator, which is required for safe servicing of the shower when required, it will not use any power except for the neon lamp if you have one, which will cost about 3p per year! So don't worry.

You're probably just wasting a lot of electricity ... unless it has a feature where it turns itself off after a few hours.

It should be alright. It's just for the conversion from cold to hot. Without any water flowing it should be fine.
What an odd scenario! The switch probably controls a seperate hot water heater for your shower - Most likely installed to save electric. Should not be an issue since most hot water heaters are left on (standby) position all the time.

If the water was running the whole weekend you would just be wasting water - imagine yourself in the shower for a long time, it never floods the room coz it all goes dows the plug hole.

The cord turns the electric on at the shower, nothing will happen til you turn on the shower at it box on the wall.

Its not for the hot water, the cord switch allows electricity to make the shower work. I reckon its like leaving a plug socket on so should be ok.
if all you have done is left the pull cord "on" rather than "off" PLEASE don't worry, it's fine. Nothing will happen. Calm down. You're wasting a little electricity but nothing else will happen.
No, don't go home, the switch is just a 30amp isolation switch, the only electric you will be using is the amount used to light the neon light in the switch, next to nowt. enjoy your holiday.
no its totally safe its just the main switch like putting the microwave on at the wall Ital just lite up it wont cook till u want it to dint wiry Ital have a trip anyway if anything was going to happen which it wouldn't it will just trip a fuse and cut out
No it wont explode, I leave mine on all the time. So no need to worry.
It will be alright it has got a thermostat in it so it wont overheat.
Your pull switch only is to allow electric to flow to shower ready to switch on,unless you havent got an on/off on your shower,which begs the question,is the shower running aswell.
It should be thermastatically controlled anyway,so it will switch off if heated to much.
the same as your heating of water in tank or radiators will only get to the heat setting you put it at and no hotter.

If you have left the pullcord on and the shower unit itself is off, then you have no need to panic. You won't use masses of electricity and it won't blow up. Enjoy your holiday
