Which decking treatment?
Question:We've had our raised decking down for about 18 months, it came pre-treated but is now looking green/grey and tired! After I've cleaned it up, which is the best treatment to use, I'm rather confused between oils, protectors, treatments, seals and stains...! Many thanks
Answers:
i am a deck builder it is a personal choice depending on various things like which way your deck faces but i prefer oil you should never pressure wash it that take off the original treatmant . good luck
ronseal it does exactly what it says on the tin
decking stain does just what it says, just gives you a colour without protecting, where as a protector will protect against water and fungal type growth on boards. so a protector is better overall. i find cuprinol have the best ranges.
i have used both decking oil and decking seal and i still have to pressure wash it every couple of years.gets all the grime off a treat
Cuprinol or sadolins do a very good decking stain/sealer. steer clear of oil as this will deteriorate very quick and you will have trouble when you come to re decorate it in the future.
Get someThompsons Water Seal. Great for fences and decks.
I used fence stain as I couldn't find a brown colour decking treatment that I liked - this was 2 years ago and it still looks lovely.
get a decking oil which is avaliable in any hardware
