How long before the mortar used to build an outdoor firepit can withstand a fire? 24 hours?

Question:

Answers:
It takes at least a week for mortar to completely cure all the way through. If you light your fire before than the concrete would loose some integrity.

I would allow a week. Any moisture that is still in the mortar will cause steam and could explode if a fire gets hot enough.
I hope you used firebrick and refractory cement for the firebox or your masonry work will have many cracks very soon unless you don't build a fire in it.
Wait a week. then burn baby burn
