What special tools are needed to drill holes in bricks?

Question:Want to put up a flag pole.

Answers:
use a carbide tipped masonry bit

A good quality electric drill. And some masonary bits, don't use the ones for wood, they'll just break.
Masonry bit the same size as the anchors you'll insert into the brick. The bolts of the base will go into the anchors.

Others are correct. I just did a job this week that involved drilling into Brick, 150 years old. I used "tapcon" bits, another form of bit, and hex head screws.
Hammer drill and a masonry bit
You can use an electric drill and some mason bits or you could go the route of SDS rotary hammer or hammer drill. Both of these have their own special bits but they are ment for drilling into harder surfaces such as cement, concrete, and mortar.
