Whats the best way to make a hardwood floor look good again?
Question:I rent so actuall restoring(sanding down to bare wood)probably wouldnt be a good idea but I would like to get rid of scuffs and dull spots and make it shiny again
Answers:
Get a scrubbing floormop, with a sponge head and scrubbing head, and use Murphy's Oil Soap in about a 1/2 cup soap to one gallon of water ratio over the entire floor. The stuff works great for restoring the luster to hardwoods and the wood eats it up like watering a plant.
well can use something with a orange oil in it...but be careful it will get slippery
Murphy oil soap works great unless the varnish on the floor is too badly damage. If that is the case, call your land lord about working with you on the cost to sand and revarnish it.
Trust me..we did this once to a rented house with mostly hard wood floors and it's a dusty, ditry job. Not only will you need to wipe down the wood after sanding (before varnishing) but you will also have to wipe down EVERYTHING, including the walls!. If you have time and want a good challenging hobby then go for it!
I'm sure your landlord will love it when it's done because it increases the property value for him with little money out of his pockets. Good luck.
