I need to replace the elastic in my favourite skirt. how much elastic is needed for a size 14?

Question:i've never done anything like this before. i've bought a metre of elasttic, but how much "give" should i allow?

Answers:
take the elastic and put it around your waist, stretching it so that it is taut but not constricting (like how your skirt feels when you wear it) and then cut it where it meets up.
You will need to pin it to the skirt before you sew, so that it stays somewhat stretched when you sew it.

you don't need to wear elastic if you're a size 14. elastic is for big people. but if u must, u shouldn't allow give when it comes to elastic.
The first answer is correct; I*ve been sewing all my life and she is right. Be sure when you pin it in place you keep it even all the way around so you don*t have a big bunch of material in one place and nothing in another. The best way to do this is divide the elastic into four sections and also the skirt then pin in place..
