Help with finishing hardwood floors??
Question:Underneath my ugly a** carpet lies an untapped resource. Hardwood floors! They've never been finished. I think this should make the job easier since I don't have to go over any old work, right? Also, this is a job that I can do on my own! Right? I have the motivation, now all I need are the tools and the know-how. Is there anyone out there who can give me advice on doing this home remodeling project myself?
Please and thank you.

Refinishing hardwood floors for a DIYer is hard work, but not impossible if you got the motivation and time.
Remove everything from the room and seal the room of from other rooms. Make certain there is no nails from your rugs left in the floor!
Use a power sander over the entire floor using 60 grit sand paper, clean and repeat with 150 grit, then 220. Use a wood filler to repair any small damaged floor. Clean well and coat with choice of sealer/wax to bring out the natural grain color or stain and then the protective coating of choice.
Oh most rental stations have power sanders you can rent.
If the floor reallyis new, a finish sanding and a couple of coats of polyurethane floor varnish should do the job. Tool rental stores have floor sanders available- rent one. You will save tons of time and strain on your back.
Unless you know something about floor sanding don't even try it you can mess up the floor in a matter of seconds. Maybe you can get a floor company to sand but not finish and you can put the finish on the floor. Maybe not.
