What kind of wood is lightest, sturdiest and cheapest for a bed frame?
Question:I wanna make a futon bed frame. all helps are appreciated. e.g. blueprint, what kind of wood etc.
Answers:
Go with metal
lightest and sturdiest usually don't go together in this type of project. I'd go with oak.
"light", "sturdy", and "cheap" usually do not go together, when you are discussing furniture. I suppose for the best of all three, you would want Oak wood.
A good solid pine will do the job. It is the lightest, the cheapest and can last a good long time if it is taken care of.
Pine wood. As far as a futon, we hated ours, very uncomfortable.
Most wood would do so check with your timber yard to see what types are available and prices.
Oak looks good, but is heavy and expensive. So is Poplar. Pine is cheap, but weak. Douglas Fir would be my choice. I think it meets all your criteria.
