Does anyone know how to put in a glass block window?
Question:I am wanting to take a window out and replace it with glass or acrylic blocks.
Answers:
they sell glass block spacers purchase them and how many glass blocks you figure you need figuring by the size glass block you want if I remember right most are 8x8 then remove the old window and frame using the spacers and block as a guide figure out the opening size u need remember a little loose is better then tight.starting at the bottom using glass block mortar apply enough to start installing block work your way up from there.once you have all the block in twist the spacers to remove the ends then use mortar to grout. For in interesting effect spray sides of the blocks white before installing.good luck it's not that difficult. If you need more info feel free to contact me.
Amy has pretty much summed it up just a couple of notes. First I would measure out the blocks for block & a jointthen allow no more than 3/8 of a joint between the frame and glass block. You might have to box in the window that would be a little easier than making it bigger.Allthough there are different sizes but they can be very expensive.the cleaning process can be done by a dry rag or when the mortar has been dried use steel wool fine to med grade this will not scratch the glass and be careful that you don't scratch the mortar joints.
