Question for carpet layers?

Question:anyone have any good tips when putting tackwood on old concrete that doesn't hold a nail

Answers:
Contact Cement is also good in the US.
Cheaper than Liquid Nails, has Many household uses and also has a reclosable lid. Shelf life is infinity.
My brother and I used it around commodes after a helper broke a $75 dollar one (:>

Take out the nails you don`t need first, reason later, and be Careful handling! Those tacks are Needle sharp.

Use an old narrow paintbrush to "paint" both surfaces and dry `til it gets tacky.

Be sure to place it where you want it without letting the surfaces touch each other. It`s near impossible to move once set.
It`s a pain I know but you might wanna space it (I use my index finger tip for this; Bout a quarter to 3/8 inch for your trim/facing/whatever) and mark "yourside" edge with a pencil first.
But then, you have to lay it out to cut it anyway, yes? And hopefully, you don`t have that much area to Contact.

Anyway, after doing all this, hammer down on the tack strip where you took the nails out. Don`t worry about bending a few tacks. You`ll still have plenty.
If you can`t hammer straight (don`t worry bout it; I butchered my share of baseboard/trim when I was learning), we use a "toekick" bar for this.
Yep, people actually put stretch-in carpet in their kitchens "back in the day".
But you can use anything kinda flat and "hammer tolerant" as wide or bigger than your empty nail hole spaces.

Well, hope this helps.
If you need any tips on stretching or trimming let me know.

Good Luck with it!
I *Know* it will come out Great.

Nowadays you can buy a bonding glue from a hardware store. We have one in New Zealand called Selleys- "Tough as Nails". You apply it with a caulking gun, or by hand, and it will stick to most surfaces. Ask your store for a bonding glue that will glue wood to cement. Good Luck!
Up here they use PL400. It's a glue that holds darn near anything. It's used for gluing plywood to floor joists etc. Just make sure you let it dry before installing the carpet. Other kinds of glue that are close are No More Nails and other such stuff.
Liquid Nails here in the States.DeNiro fan??
