How long of a bandsaw blade do I need?

Question:I have a Rockwell 20" model 28-3x0. How long of a blade do I need, and what type of a blade to cut plastic.
Also how wide should the blade be? If this helps the width of the wheel is 1 5/16".

Answers:
Since you dont mention the thickness of material I'm guessing you're using 1/8" or more? I would think a metal blade would give a cleaner cut w/less splintering. Using tape to overlay your line will also help. If you cut down the middle of the tape it helps prevent chipping. If you measur the blade that broke you 'll have the correct length. If you dont have it Put a strip of tape on the end of a sewing style measure tape & Run as the blade should, on both wheels. Make sure you unplug before. Stick the tape to the wheel & handturn to other side if necessary.

Blade width is dependent on use. If you want to make tight turns then you need the narrowest blade available. For straight cuts the widest blade possible is used which helps to keep the cut accurate.

To measure for the blade, wind down the wheels to the minimum and then raise up slightly. Using a dressmakers tape or a piece of string wrap it round the wheels and you have the blade size.

Any blade will cut plastic but ideally you need the maximum number of teeth to ensure minimum chatter and the finest finish.
