Refrigirator with water and ice dispenser?
Question:If I buy one of those fridges that have a water and ice dispenser, what do I do if there is not a water access point where the fridge spot is? The closet water access point is 10 feet away on the other side of the kitchen?
Answers:
You need to purchase an ice maker installation kit which is available at a home improvement or hardware store. It consists of about 15 feet of small diameter tubing (plastic or copper), a shutoff valve and fittings. The shutoff valve clamps around the water supply pipe which you have available. When you turn in the knob, it puts a tiny hole in your water pipe. You do not have to shut off water supply. The tubing supplied in the kit is connected to the valve and run to the rear of your refrigerator. Usually you run it under the floor.Fittings included are used to make the tubing connections. If by any chance you have a galvanized supply pipe, this approach will not work as the shutoff valve cannot pierce metal this thick. I have used it on copper pipe. It probably will also work on plastic pipe (check instructions or ask store clerk)
You will have to cut the pipe and put a splitter on it and run it to where you need it.
Consider a 5 gal jug that you refill. This way, if ever a disaster happens and your water tube leaks. you'll only spill 5 gal of water. Otherwise, kits are readily available at home stores. Last resort, call a plumber just to be sure. If you have to, double up the job with something else that needs to be done (change a water valve or something) to get the work done at a better price.
IF YOU HAVE A BASEMENT,OR CRAWLSPACE,YOU CAN TAP INTO ANY COLD WATERLINE WITH A PIERCING SUPPLY CONNECTOR,THEY SELL THEM AT ANY HOME DEPOT,ACE,TRUEVALUE.....
