How do you replace the screen on a screen door?

Mesh comes in several widths so make sure you have the measurements with you when you head to the hardware store. You will need the rubber gasket tubing that you push
into the channel and the special plastic roll tool. Talk to one of the employees at the store they are very helpful.
Basically you just pull the screen out of the door and then lay the door on something flat. Roll out the mesh about an inch or two bigger than the surface your replacing. Make sure its straight. Once you cut it start unrolling the thin rubber tubing. Start in a corner and just push it into the channel all the way around the area.
When you get close to the end cut the tubing about 2 inches longer than you think you need. Make sure all the tubing is in tight and then cut the tubing to size and the excess mesh.
Sometimes you have to do it a couple of times to get it right so don't get upset. Hope that helps!
www.diy.com, you will find a step by step instructions.
You can take the screen to a hardware store and they will replace the mesh.
Measure the door and go to the hardware store like Home Depot / Lowes and buy enough screen to cover with a few inches overlap. You'll also need to pick up some rubber fasteners to fix the new screen in place ... because as you remove the old screen, you may damage the existing rubbers.
Good luck.
around the edges in the indented area around the screen is something called spline. you pick this out first. once you grab an end it pulls out pretty easy. then take the screen off. you need a tool called a spline roller. very cheap tool. best to get the plastic one that has the razor built in if you can. also best to get one with a roller at 2 ends because there are different ksizes of spline. i think it only comes in grey and black. i recreen my porch and screen doors and i am a lady so this is not a hard thing to do. just make sure when you put the screen back up that you do tug at the sides before rolling the spline in this insures a snug fit. otherwise your screen will be moving and can probably rip easier if there is alot of wind. dont rush to roll the spline either . if you slip and you have a metal spline roller or you try to go too fast you can slip and rip the new screen with the spline roller. anybody sells these. home depot, walmart, loews , hardware stores. if you cannot reuse the old spline, take a piece of it to the store when you go for your screen because as i have said, it comes in different sizes.some is flat some is round and different thicknesses as well. personally too, i prefer soft screen and not the metal screening. that stuff will poke you really bad.have fun. it is better than paying someone some crazy amt of money to do something that you can do yourself. it is not really hard. just the first time i did it was a little frustrating because i didn't know spline came in flat and round and different widths so i had the wrong stuff and had to go back and i was doing it alone so there was no one to help me hold the screen tight. what i figured out as my easisest way to do it is: measure the spline then start putting it in - starting in the very center of the sides so it is tight then use my one hand to hold the screen taut as i go up and i change sides every few inches so that it is snug all the way up. hope this helps. have fun.
