Wall Paper removal and wall prep?

Question:My fiance and I have started to remove wall paper in our home (it was there when we moved in), we have discovered that the wall paper was put on directly to drywall. So when we are removing it, we are doing a number on the drywall. One room we spackled and sanded for days before we painted. Some one had told me once a while ago that there something that you can put over the dry wall after removing the paper to make the wall prep easier, does anyone have any clue what that is?

oh my have i been there done that!! lol!
Now dont laugh (at least not too much) but the BEST ever thing we have used for this problem was Plain White VINEGAR!!

in killing/removing black mold we were spraying a wall with the vinegar (it kills mold spores so that it can be removed safely) we found that the old wallpaper starting coming off the wall on its own. (this was the old heavy paper that you pasted yourself & is a real PAIN to remove) all 3 layers of wallpaper in someplaces!

so we spray the paper directly (it helps to get the vinegar under a corner of paper to get it started- then did a spray-pull spray -pull kind of thing untill it all was off. then i resprayed the wall on the old glue residue (it felt like cement in spots) the vinegar dissolved it and i just wiped it off!! very cool.

after it all dried i noticed the wall had this wonderful smooth feel to it - it was the easiest & best repaint we ever did. it had also cleaned & sized the wall for painting in one fell swoop!!

to apply the vinegar we were using small/medium sized plastic hand sprayers like you use to mist houseplants - you can by empty ones everywhere

the drawbacks you ask?? well, the house smells like a pickle factory for the entire time so you have to keep it well aired. but you have to do that anyway for any chemical and many paints. so no biggee. and thats it - i found no other problems and it SOLVED a bunch!! (i have severe chemical allergies so this is wonderful for me!!)

good luck & have fun redecorating (you do know redecorating is neverending.. right?? LOL!)

I think what you are referring to is wall size, which acts as a sealer to the surface of the drywall boards
Instead of pulling the wallpaper down, you might want to look into paint techniques like using tint in joint compound or other texture mix and adding to the wall over the paper. Then you don't have the hassle, won't ruin your drywall, and are adding texture and color to your walls all at once.

You'll have to look up specific directions, but basically you buy the joint compound or wall plaster, find the specialized tint for it in your favorite color, add it to the mix, then apply to the wall in whatever texture technique you like. You can use various tools to create texture in the compound/plaster. You might have to lightly sand the walls first for better adhesion.

As for the product you're asking about, I don't know. Sorry.

Good luck!!
