Question:i left my books in my backpack over spring break and they got mosture in them but idk how to dry it out without damageing the book or making it noticable that it had water in it.ne suggestions? ive heard blow dryer, and the oven at a low temp? ne thing else?
Answers:
first, peel the pages apart and stick papper towling in between the wettest pages. Then leave them near a dehumidifier in a dry room with a desk lamp shining on them.
Wow! That's not good! Why not call the library and explain to them what has happened, and see what they do when damp books are returned.
I wish you well!
Don't put them in the oven, since this can brown the pages. Try using the hairdryer or just leaving them to dry off by themselves.
No matter how they dry, odds are the pages are going to be a bit warped and they might stick together. If the ink wasn't water-proof (most modern inks are) it might run a bit, but the pages will definitely show signs that they were soaked at some point.
open it out in the sun, put rocks to hold the weight on every page. Once pages are completely dried turn to another till done.
the problem with books getting wet is that they will forever more have a smell of mildew and there is no getting rid of it.
in fact they will spread that smell to other books so you need to get rid of them or any other books anywhere near them will get ruined also.
hairdryer is your best option. then store them in a dry place such as an airing cupboard to make sure they don't go mildewed until they are completely dry.
From personal experience, I used a hairdryer, but the pages turned up wrinkled :) You can also just let it air dry.
