Search "Blackout" at bed bath and beyond. Lots of colors and inexpensive.

Shutters. You can buy MDF shutters and they will stop all light from getting in but can still be opened for air if you like.
alum. foil and a light mist of spray glue.. unless you want it to come down easy
tin foil and duct tape.
I would suggest blackout shades... you have several options as far as those are concerned you can have them made to order such as on this website

http://www.blindstore.net/roll_shades/ex...

or you can find them in stores like wallmart or kmart... maybe even target... most vinyl roller shades will do the trick and they even sell them so you can cut them to fit your window...

another option if you want a more traditional look in the room you can mount a curtain on a rod so that the curtain fully covers the window an add a blackout lining such as the one on this website

http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/...

the best thing I can suggest is a combination of the 2 the roller shade usually lets some light thru the sides and perhaps the bottom as may a blackout shade so a combination of the 2 will really work best for you... that should help you get the light completely blocked out and give you the look your going for...
Your local fabric store should carry blackout fabric. My Joann's sells it for about $6/yard, and it's probably 54" wide. There are different thicknesses - some are for "blackout" and some are "room darkening". You want the blackout kind. I wrap ours around the window trim and pin it or tack it down, but you can get good results just hanging it FLAT in front of the window. It's also nice to be able to take it down when you want to let light in and it looks good from the street.

You can have drapes made with is as a liner, and that works well too, but light can get in around the sides.

You can order online too:
