Question:

cheaper the carpet the more you feel.. if its where you walk once you get the carpet in just tap them with a hammer flat.. it'll still hold the carpet until you replace it. i have to do it all the time around fireplace floor tile and along hardwood/carpet

You really need the correct tackstrip for the carpeting you are installing. They come with long and short lengths of tack sticking up.
Use a tack hammer and bend them over. Are you using the carpet stretcher?
It's pretty impossible if you haven't picked carpetting (and separate underpad) thick enough to prevent this naturally.

I would suggest taking a hammer and pounding away at all the points you feel so that you bend them downwards, and they will no longer stick into your feet when you walk on them.
