How can I make a makeshift downspout extension?
Question:Hi: I have round downspouts, and one of my downspout extensions is missing. I can't find matching fitting round downspouts in any store. Any ideas on how to craft a makeshift downspout extension. There is a rainstorm in the forecast...
Thanks.

PVC pipe -- just measure the diameter of your existing pipe and get one size larger to go over it (don't be afraid to insert the existing pipe by a decent amount - that will insure that no water will back up over the larger PVC pipe) and of course, purchase the length you need to reach just above the ground. Then you can use duct tape to hold it if you need to (you may not need to if the pipe is extending to the ground--it won't go anywhere!) If you want to, you can also purchase an elbow that fits the PVC you purchased so that you can attach it at the bottom to divert water away from the house. Then you can use an additional straight piece of PVC to attach to the other end of the elbow any length you want to really take the water away! To give you a better visual in words -- look at how your washing machine drain hose goes into the pipe that takes the water out of the house -- you are doing almost the same thing. The water hose from the washing machine where the water is rushing out from is slightly smaller and inserted into the drain pipe deeply enough so that the water does not fill up and go over the larger pipe. If you have any other trouble or need better assistance -- do check out DIY, just type that in to your search bar -- The Do-It-Yourself site is awesome and has step-by-step tutorials for lots of projects!
