Why is grout needed when laying tiles,why can't tiles be put against each other,that way no grout is needed

you could lay them against each other but you still need grout to make it look right the reason there spaced out because tiles are not perfect in size there are some variance in them that's why they are spaced to hide the imperfection in them so what ever way you lay tile you still need grout

The grout seals the seams so water doesn't penetrate.

It`s used mostly to keep the water from eventually ruining the wall behind the tile (usually sheetrock).
But would`nt look right either as someone already said.
If you just don`t want to have to buy 3 different products, they DO have tile adhesive that makes it own grout. I bet you already HAVE the Sealer, more later. Don`t get ahead of me now (:>
Simply spread it a little thicker and let it squeeze out between the tiles (pressing down hard enough to keep it all level of course).
Then smooth it down with your finger or a wet rag. You`ll have to keep wringing your rag out or you`ll have a Mess.
After you get what you want, let dry good.
Then come back with a Dry rag (cheesecloth works Best for this) and wipe off the film.
THEN the sealer. Shines the tile and seals the "grout".
Old English furniture Polish or Any furniture polish that Does NOT have stain added.
UnLess you Want the grout a different color.

I think they call it mexican tiling when you put the tiles tight together. I did it in a bathroom with 4X4" slate and it looks awesome. I did grout the floor however just to make sure every crack was filled.
Yes, you certainly can lay floor and wall tiles without grout between them. This is done in many commercial building in Europe as standard construction.
If you should decide to do this, you will need a bead of RTV rubber around the perimeter of each tile to seal it off. This is applied with a caulk gun and you can even get colored RTV caulk to match the tiles.
Do not install the tiles without the rubber seal around the peremiter.
Because there would still be a fine gap that water would penetrate.
