Moving!!!?
Question:i am moving tomorrow and i was wanting any ideas on how to get through it smoothly...oh and i need to get a washer and a refrigerator any ideas on what to get and where is cheaper?
Answers:
To save your back, pack your boxes lightly.
Give or throw away stuff that you can easily replace so you have less to pack and unpack.
Large boxes should only hold lightweight items.
Books should go into small boxes about 1x1x1 (1 cubic foot) in size. Same for heavy pots and pans.
Special wardrobe boxes about 2x2x4 include a hanging bar make it easy to take your clothes right off your closet rod and pack them directly without folding them.
Mark each box with the room and contents for easy identification. Seal all the box edges well with tape to prevent accidental openings.
Use lots of newspaper to wrap glass and fragile items.
Use blankets or rent some moving pads to protect your large furniture. Use rope to securely tie the items inside your trailer or moving van.
Not sure where you live, so it's hard to give recommendations for washer & dryer retailers. Sears, Home Depot, Lowes carry a wide selection of brands. If you want to save money, ask for floor models (almost never get any use) and scratch & dent items. They are brand-new, have the full factory warranty and can be purchased for 20% or more off the list price. Who cares about a scratch or dent? And look for the models with the simplest set of features - who really needs 14 wash cycles and 6 water temperature settings? Check online for special deals/discounts, rebates from the mfr or dealer and even your utility company on Energy Star appliances.
They have those glider things that you put under the corners of heavy stuff, and its supposed to be easy to move. I'm glad you asked that cuz I'm moving in 2 weeks and forgot all about those til now.\
Good Luck
Hopefully you have all of your boxes labled as to which room they should be placed. Since you haven't much time, just go with the flow. There is not much you can do, but stay calm.
EZ Moves is the name of the company that has placements that can go under your furniture to glide them throughout the room, across hardwood floors and carpeted floors. This won't help you out by tomorrow. A good nights rest will.
For washers: Bosch, Frididaire, Whirlpool, and Kenmore
They all run about $1000.00 per Consumer Reports.
Front load machines are more energy efficient and better in performance. Need to use low sudsing detergent. They do cost more than top load machines but Whirlpool and Kenmore seem to be the leading brands.
For Refridgerators:
Side by Side: 33" Whirlpool, Kenmore
and 36" Amana. About $1000.00.
If you do not have enough room for a wide swing door.
Top Freezer: Kenmore $800.00
Frididaire $550.00
These are the least espensive. Can problaly go as low as $400.00. GE is another good brand in the market.
30" Bottom Freezer Kenmore $870.00
Amana $850.00
33" and 36" are much higher. $950.00, 1700.00, 2200.00
