Remove old rusted screws?
Question:Hello,
I need to remove some old rusted screws and when I put the drill in to remove them the screws deform? How can I remove them? I even went and bought a 10.00 drill bit to do this and it didn't work either!

hey b-
not sure where the screws are srewed into but you would do well to first spray a good amount of penetrating oil on screw(s) and allow to soak. then fix a needle nose vice grip wrench on screw and turn counter clockwise. if that doesn't work then use a bolt/screw extractor and a comparable drill bit to make a hole in the screw for placement of extractor. turn extractor ccw to disengage. if that doesn't work you'll have to cold chisel those babies out-bill
You are going to have to drill them out and then retap the threads.
ty pouring some cheap cola on them, thats supposed to work!!
or you could make the slit thing that the drill bit fits into deeper wit a saw, that works too!!
good luck!
They sell easyouts...They come in sets
Sometimes it's best to use a good old fashioned hand powered screwdriver. It gives you a feel of the screw and you can tell when it is about to strip. That is a warning to stop and try something else without destroying the screw head beyond use.
Long story short, there is no right way to do this, so try anything and remember the results (good or bad) for next time.
Try all of the above two hours after you put WD 40 on the screws your trying to remove
