well it's real all right but, not in the U.S. they outlawed these nasty weapons a long time ago through the Geneva Convention as being Inhumane weapons as you can see.

They were used by the US Marines and the Army to ferret the Japanese out of the caves on Iwo Jima and other Japanese held islands during WW2, it was a deterrent to the Japanese to hide in the caves but a very dangerous weapon, the back pack flame thrower was used in WW2 for awhile also, sometimes to the sorrow of the person carring it for he was the target of the other side and when caught, shown no mercy.
