Hanging chandelier, how do I shorten it?

Question:I have a hanging ceiling light, how do I shorten the chain so the chandelier doesn't hang so low?

Answers:
Get an "S" hook from any hardware store. Make sure it is a very strong one. Hook one end of the S hook on the top link of the chain that your chandelier hangs from, then "fold" the hanging chain and put another link, at the length you'd like, on the bottom part of the S hook.

simply buy a heavy duty "s" hook and hook it from one chain to the next at the length you want. Or, remove a couple of links with pliars. Chandaliers are supposed to hang low for effect and beauty, for the feeling of wealth. If you're looking for a ceiling light or even one that you pull up and down for convenience you can buy one of those at Home Depot. That's what we did, got the pull down one (for school work), then we were disappointed because the "rich look" was gone once we removed the chandalier.
if your chandelier has attachments to it you can you arrange them differently or you could just shorten the cord.
There are a lot of good answers here. You can remove links in the chain using the strong "S" hook on the top link and then try hanging the fixture to that hook by raising the fixture up one link at a time and when you get the fixture at the right, height you remove the excess links or just leave them hang.
Remember that if you make a permanent length change, you will need to cut the wire and if you decide to put the fixture back the way it was, it will need to be rewired again.
