How do you prevent runs in your paint job?

Question:

Answers:
Trim, paint one way, not back and forth. Walls use a roller and use the W formation to avoid lap marks and runs.

If your paint is running, it means the coat is too thick. Start with a less paint on your brush/roller because you can always add more by doing another coat. This will keep it smooth and allow you to control the depth of color.
Runs in the paint are caused by moisture, or too thick a paint coat or both. Cheaper paints have more water than high quality paints so if you opt for a low cost paint use many light coats instead of one thick one. Also, make sure there is not moisture trapped in the walls. If you are uncertain about moisture in the walls, run the air conditioner for a few days before painting.
I would advice you to use very, very little paint - just barely enough to cover the surface being painted.
once this dries- which it will dry faster since there is a very thin coat - you will be able to apply another thin coat like this.

You may have to go over the entire job a third time to get it to the point you want it to be but you will not have runs, you will have used much less paint, and you will have a much nicer looking job in the end.
