Do I need to apply a protective coating on top of solid color wood stain?

Question:I'm using Behr solid color wood stain on my deck. According to the can it's supposed to last five years. Do I need to apply anything else on top of it like a polyurethane or Thompson's, or should the Behr be enough?
It's a big deck and I'm doing the work by myself and I just want the finish to last!

Answers:
If the Behr wood stain does NOT say to put a top coat on it then you shouldn't have to. However, in my experience, its a LOT of work to stain a large deck and if you dont want to do it again soon I would put a clear polyurethane on top. This will give it a little shine and make the stain underneath stay beautiful for years.

I would ask an associate at Home Depot if you are close to one. I'm sure you can get an answer over the phone to. No point in doing all that extra work if you don't have to...
