How do I figure out how much cement I need.?
Question:I want to cement an area in the back yard to park my boat and I want to order the cement and need to know how many yards to order??
Answers:
W x L X H / 27= cubic yardage
ex..
4 feet x 8 feet x .33 feet(4 inches) / 27=.391 cubic yards...you arder 1 yard of concrete
or just call the concrete plant give them your dimensions and they will help you out
Measure the area, that you want to put concrete in, in feet lets say for example 12'X12', then convert into inches(144"X144") and then figure 3-4" deep. So 144"X144"X3"=62,208 cubic inches, and then divide that by 1,728( that is the number of cubic inches in 1 cubic foot) giving you 36 cubic feet. Then divide that by 27 (the number of cubic feet in 1 cubic yard) giving you 1.3 cubic yards. Use whatever size you want for the begining.
Figure out the volume of the cement. Take the length of the slab multiply the width of the slab and then multiply the depth (in tenths) 4'' is .34 6'' is .50 for example. Take that number and divide by 27 and that is your yardage...
If the depth is 3 1/2 inches about a 2x4 for your form then each 9x9 will work out to 1 cubic yard.
OK, boy ,I like these kind of questions! For paving one cu.yard, you would use 9 bags(94 lbs. each) cement,11/2 parts sand=0.4 cu yd.,21/2 aggregate=0.7cu yd.or ,31/2 ballast=1.0cu yd. to determine size, you calculate the area by multiplying width by length. An example would be, 2ft.x3ft.=6 sq. ft. or 78 in. x 117 in. = 9126 sq. in. or 7 sq. yd. A paving area has to be 5 inches thick with a 6 inch sub-base. Bye
as stated, length x widthx height divided by 27 then add a quarter yard for bad grading , spillage etc.
