How do you get rid of mold on green logs?
Question:Had a cabin built and green logs were used on one ceiling with bark still on them. I was told to let them dry for a while and the bark would fall off. They have molded and have black spots on them. I hand removed all the bark but don't know what to do next.
Answers:
I use a 2 gal pump up sprayer filled with the following solution. I find that it works as good, or better than most store bought mixes and is a lot cheaper.
In a 2gal sprayer add the following:
1 Gal. Generic Bleach
1 16oz bottle of Isopropal alcohol
1 good squirt of liquid dish detergent (Dawn,etc...)
Water to fill to full line.
Shake or stir to mix and pump up.
Makes a full 2 gal.
Use:
Spray on dry wood until soaked well. Allow to sit for about 10-15min. then either pressure wash or hose off with a spray nozzle. Will clean the wood to like new, and prevent new mold for about 6 months to 1 year.
there is also a kinda liquid you can buy.. its like a wash it comes in a can and you can buy it at any hardware store... our ceiling fell out of our apartment from the people's A/C and the beams were all wet and getting moldy... so they used this wash.. you put on with a paint brush and let dry.. good luck!
