Can I get away with using a 14 AWG wire to pigtail a dedicated refrigerator outlet off a 20 amp circuit?
Question:If I am only putting my refrigerator on an outlet that uses a 14 AWG size wire to "pigtail" to a 20 amp circuit/breaker, will there be any hazard ?
Answers:
Absolutely not. It is not wise to share a refrigerator with any other appliance. Refrigerators are bad with electrical inductance, or the ability to store electricity in an electromagnetic field. They also send dirty electricity back down the neutral side and into your other more "reluctant" appliances.
you will need to change the breaker to a 15 A breaker
you could use 12-2 wire then you will be ok
you can run the 14 wire direct to the panel on its own 15 a breaker
depends on your local code ,most electrical codes require a dedicated 20 amp circuit for a fridge.if you use a 14ga wire its for 15 amps you could get away with it but i wouldent ,especially if a fire ensues the homeowners insurance will not cover damages because of sub standard wireing.
you really need a 12-2 wire !
