Door locked to my room!?
Question:I was just sleepwalking, and I just closed my door to my room... (no, not apartment or hotel room. House.) but then I realized I locked it on the inside earlier... (to keep annoying family members out) and then i woke up and now I'm here, how do I unlock the door without waking my parents up, knocking the door down? (I don't have a lockpick) btw its not one of those doors with a latch by the doorknob..
Answers:
For a pretty long time now, all interior locking knobs have to be unlock-able from the outside. So there should be a way, probably a small hole in the center, maybe a slot for a screwdriver. Also you might luck out and be able to take apart the knob from the outside.
If not, before breaking the door down, Carefully pry off the door stop trim from the jamb and see if you can slide something (credit card) in to unlatch the bolt.
if there is a hole stick a close hanger sraight in and push it should unlock it.
sleep on the couch until morning...then ak for their help.
also - they will feel sorry for you having to sleep on couch
good luck
You failed to mention if it's an inside door in which case there should be a hole in the center of handle that you can insert a small thin screwdriver and turn it to disengage the lock. The hole is there exactly for this reason.
If it's the outside door, then you need to look around for a vulnerable window or, if all else fails, ring the doorbell and face the consequences. I'm sure your parents would understand if you really were sleepwalking...
BTW, how did you mange to post this question if you can't get to your computer?
Good luck!
Use a small flat headed screwdriver to open the lock using the small hole in the center of the knob. Stick it in til you feel it catch and then turn slightly.
OR
If not try using a card (credit card) to push against the lock mechanism. Center of the knob press towards the door and it should disengage the lock...
mmkay... u know how once the doors are open and u look on the side...u see that thing sticking out that goes in the hole in the wall( it goes in once u turn the knob) well... get a knife and stic it in where that thingy is...try to fiddle around with it a lot till it unlocks.
Well, hopefully you are back in your room three hours after you posted you're question; but just incase. As with all of the other answers there should be a small hole in the center of the outside knob; this is kinda like a key hole. Find something straight that will fit in the hole; ie metal hanger, toothpick, screwdriver, etc. Now push in and hold, then turn the handle. You have to press and hold the straight object though; this only disengages the lock it doesn't actually unlock the door. If your door handle doesn't have the hole in the center there maybe a groove for a flat head screwdriver. If you don't have a screwdriver try a butter knife or something of the like. Place it in the groove and turn; this does actually unlock the door; and you can get back to a peaceful nights sleep. Good luck, and I hope you've gotten it taken care of before you read this.
Try a screwdriver or a credit card that always works for me and its easy
