How can i prevent someone getting in my window with an air conditioner in the window/?
Question:our window is off of our porch. i am afraid that someone is going to get into our housr though that window by taking the airconditioner out. what can i do to stop anyone from doing this
Answers:
Don't forget about an emergency. Use the "L" bracket to secure the ir conditioner. Than Cut a 3/4" dowel the length of the sash that is partially closed. It can only be removed by breaking the window but easily removed by you inside. In case of fire 1) remove dowel 2) unplug air co. 3) shove air co. out.
Buy a big dog! lol Just kidding. I don't really know the answer to that but I am due to have a baby any day and I have 2 air conditioners in my house windows...you really got me thinking about that now.
most air conditioners come with an accordion (pull out) on each side you just pull them out and nail it to your window or put boards on both sides and nail them down and if some body comes through, keep that hammer close at hand and bash his skull in, and pull him all the way in and then call 911
Some A/C's come with a little "L" shaped bracket that is screwed to the sash so that the window can not be opened with the A/C in place, if not then just go to the hardware store and buy a angle bracket and screw it to the sash and jamb and the window will not be able to be opened then. Please note, when A/C is installed the lower sash should be screwed to the Frame of the A/C , it's the upper sash that you want to put the angle bracket on. Hope this is clear if not contact me if need help.
Use some wooden framing around the air conditioner and fasten into window frame with long wood screws and into the metal body of the air conditioner with self taping sheet metal screws. Seal the wood with filler over the inset holes and paint. Also insulation can be sprayed around it to stop any warm air from coming in .If someone really wants to break in after that it would be easier for them to break the window.
Good luck, you might call a handyman to do this if you don`t have the ability or tools.
is the window dbl. hung or slider? with the ac unit in place the flanges should be inside.if it has not fallen out then i'm guessing you have that part right.bottom line,if the sash/pane does not open the ac unit can not be removed short of tearing **** up! a couple well placed long screws will keep it from moving.
Secure the air conditioner case to the window sill with screws. Drill a hole in the window casing on each side at the top of the window, put pins in holes to prevent window from being raised. If you have a slider door, cut a peace of 1" PVC pipe and lay it in the track, between the door and casing. Drill and put pins in top of door to prevent it from being lifted of the tracks.
hmmm... perhaps you could just move it to a window on an upper floor? (cold air sinks)
yes a pit bull will work!
