Will a 4.5", 4.2 amp angle grinder help disassemble a cast iron stove?
Question:I know it's probably not the greatest tool for the job, but I've got a big old stove that needs to be disassembled (long cuts, like in feet). Will it work, and will it take forever? I'm guessing the iron is 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick. If it will work, what kind of cutter or grinder should it be equipped with?
Answers:
If your just getting rid of the stove, hit it with a sledge hammer. The cast iron will shatter. Wear safety glasses.
If your talking about disassembling it, an angle grinder is not the tool to use. It'll get stuck in the cut and you will get HURT. Much better to use a reciprocating saw with a carbide grit blade, made to cut ferrous metal. $4 a piece at GiantBox Home improvement centers everywhere. Wear safety glasses.
i agree-sledgehammer, safety glasses, a couple beers and some friends to carry away the remains.
It will need to be a quality grinder as many off the cheaper ones overheat very quickly.
Yes it will take a while
