cut up credit cards!! Hands down the strongest, easiest to make. Just cut out the pick shape, ya know, like a curved triangle almost. You don't have to cut up a good card, you can use stupid ones like you safeway club card, or albertsons grocery card...I use these ALL THE TIME!!
wwjd
I always thought a bread bag clip would make a great little guitar pick!
well my music teacher used to use a pop tab, don't ask me. Just be real careful when you use it.
milk plastic bottle.
bread ties the plastic ones of course.
dude have i got the answer for you. I started doing this about 3 years ago and they are some of the coolest picks you can use. Eric johnson also does this to get a clean tone. Take two pieces of think felt, glue them together, and cut it in a pick shape and you will get the smoothest, twangiest sound ever. They are definetly a medium gague i'd say, and the only reason they haven't caught on more is that they do wear down ( i usually get a new one ever 3 weeks or so) but trust me, as far as homemade guitar picks go-
they are the best
try it- and please best answer me
Old credit cards. Any hard plastic of that approximate thickness but not thinnner. Perhaps a little thicker is okay.
Wow! Somebody actually asked a question I have intimate experience with. When I've been desperate for a guitar pick, and believe me I've been there, I've used one of the semi-square plasitc tags used to hold a bread bag closed, taken nail clippers to it and designed my own, after using a nail file to get the right edge for a gauge. Works on either nylon strings or electric. Just have to adjust the enthusiasm with which you play. Have also used flat chips of wood but they don't seem to give the same resonance.
I think the credit card answer was best. They are a good thickness and there is plenty of area to cut out whatever shape you need. You can also cut out about anything plastic like detergent bottles. You can even use a toothpick if you're desperate enough.
use a mike jug they work good
When I was learning guitar, until I was old enough to have enough money to buy guitar picks, I used to make guitar picks out of EVERYTHING. My heaviest picks were usually bread bag holders, not the ties but the square plastic with a hole on one end. I also used every plastic available but specifically recall that the plastic on bleach bottles worked good but even better were the picks made from detergent bottles! They were a perfect sort of gage for me, not too heavy but not too thin. For thin picks I would use the plastic from the gallon/half gallon milk containers. Soda bottle plastic works but if I recall it tended to be a little too stiff. I tried everything and some of them actually worked quite well. I also would take the plastic from the plastic cover of a coffee can. Different brands use different types of plastic so I would just recommend cutting them out of any/all plastic you can find, you'll find something that works good for you. A friend of mine had the best home made picks when his mom had to cut up her credit cards - she let him cut them into guitar picks and they were the best! Hopefully this is temporary for you - picks arent that expensive and you have a lot more choice and control when you buy them; but in the mean time cut them out of everything you find, I know I did!! Check the link below too for a few good ideas! You can make guitar picks out of just about anything!!
if its not much of a worth, cut out old turn table disks (old records) i dont know exactly how you name that. 45's? phonographs. it may be a substitute for a heavy guitar pick gauge
Old credit cards, thick
Bleach bottles, thin to thick
take 25cents and go buy a few
