Snap on tools?
Question:why are snap on tools so expensive. i know they are good quality and have a lifetime warranty but the price of their stuff in the uk is an absolute joke.im trying to build up my tools as i just started a new job which requires good hand tools but its 130 pounds for a set of snap on screwdrivers and its only got seven drivers.are there any alternatives to snap on.
Answers:
i use snap ons, you get what you pay for, theres no substitute for class...
britool they are very good as good as snap on if not better with some tools
They'r a rip off , always have been and always will be , the warranty's no good if they'r lost or stolen , and you could replace any tool 10 times over for they charge !!
snap-on are over rated...try teng tools...excellent quality...i have a whole shed full.never given me a bother.the mechanics at the bus company here in Dublin use them
Mac tools are good but not a lot less in price. Snap-On are a rip off and a status symbol. Teng and Britool are good enough.
i know they are expensive but as you say they are guaranteed forever ..and they are brilliant tools to use ..they will all so make up special tools for you if you need a one off ..why not have a holiday in the USA and buy your tools over there.the money you save will pay for the holiday ..and you will have the tools you want
Craftsman tools sold by Sears in the US are good quality and have a lifetime warranty. Sears will replace them at no charge, even if you broke a tool through abuse. Unfortunately, Sears does not ship to the UK. You can browse their tool selection online to see whether your savings would be enough to pay for a trip to the US to buy them:

If you are buying tools for your work, you will need to follow some simple rules.
Buy tools as you go, & Theres no point spending lots of hard earned cash on tools you do'nt need. You've said a set of 7 screwdrivers is £130 if you need all 7 for the main part of your work then that's £18.50 each, if you only need 2 buy the 2 you need.
Tools you use all of the time, Buy the best, keep your eye on these because other people might steal them. do'nt lend them.
Never turn up at a new job with all new tools (all the gear no idea) Get my drift:)
draper tools are fine
i used to buy halfords professional tools thy are excellent,a little pricey but not as much as snap on,
britool excellent tools, sykes pickavant starett all good makes. but for 30 quid i got a full set of screw drivers from screw fix. included 2 top grade electrical screwdrivers rated at 1000v.
The tools are good quality. The reason I think the tools are so expensive is paying for the convience of having them stop at your place of employment if you work as a mechanic. If you work on cars on weekends or do it yourself I would go with Proto or Craftsman Tools...
snap on tools are expensive yes and are one of the top brands but for the same money and in some cases less money you can buy Stahlwille which are superior to Snap On and come with a lifetime warranty but i have never seen anything break. German made vs N. America!
Snap on tools are among the best tools in the world, there construction and materials are better than most in the market place. However they are the Prada of tools and often you are paying only for the name. There route to market is via the driver/delivery man/man in a van, these guys are set up to call in every week and collect money from you. They sell the tools along the line "You can have this for only £5.00 per week".
Unless you are working for BMW, Mercedes Benz or Porche I would stick to good quality tools from your local tool shop.
I have a set of Halfords spanners that I bought when I got mt first car 50 years ago and although they have had a lot of use maintaining around 20 or so cars the are still in very good condition, I also have two socket sets 1/2" and 3/8th, that I also got from Halfords about 20 years ago and are still in use, one point is that if the ratchet mechanism goes, ( it never has ) Halfords supply a new mechanism. I don't know where you live, Halfords are in the UK
Snap on tools are for the show offs and are no better than a lot of less expensive tools.
