What do i put under roll roofing?
Question:Do I put tar paper? I read about some primer for plywood do I do that?
Can I just seal the plywood seams with fiberglass/asphalt tape and just put the roofing on the plywood?
Answers:
Tar paper. There are many different types of roofing. Depending on the slope of your roof and type of materials you are using. If you have less then 3' of slope in 12' you will need to use lap cement. If it is basic asphalt rolled roofing no primer is needed however you would still install felt paper with seams sealed. You need to follow the manufacturer's installation guidelines. Ask for them where you bought the roofing.
A 90 lb. felt on a roll is adequate, and certainly you can do seams, but it's rarely done commercially, and never just rolling roof material over raw Ply/Mdf/Particle board.
The felt should be rolled out with the same thought as the roofing material will be, begin at the bottom and overlap each course. At the ridge line allow that the overlap in whatever width you choose, on a peaked roof, will overlap both sides.
