How to remove smoke from wood furniture?

Question:

Answers:
If the wood furniture is relatively new and has an intact top coat of poly, a good cleaning with furniture polish should be enough. If the poly finish is worn or if the furniture is unfinished, an application of oil followed by a coat of polyurethane would do the trick.

SAFETY NOTE: Linseed oil soaked rags can spontaneously combust if left in a hot environment bundled together. If you follow rich h's advice, then discard the linseed oil rags in a can filled with water or leave them in a cool shaded placed, not a hot outdoor trash can. Last thing you want is a fire to re-smoke the furniture you just finished fixing!

i have no idea
Try a thorough wiping with linseed oil. It fills the grain and should displace some of the smoke residue. You get a lint-free cloth and wipe it on rather thick. Allow it to penetrate for 10 or 15 minutes, then go back with a clean lint-free cloth and polish the surface. You'll be picking up the excess oil and it will probably be dirty, so change the cloth frequently. Let it sit a day, then do it again.

All of this assumes you have finished wood, not painted.

You can buy (boiled) linseed oil at any ol' box store or home improvement store. It comes usually in a pint can. I was able to wipe down three chaise lounges, two chairs, and a love seat with about half of the can. I can't imagine a piece of furniture requiring more than that.

Good luck.
linseed oil may work, but be aware. It will SPONTANEOUSLY COMBUST if the rag is left in direct sunshine!! Keep cotton rags in air proof metal container.
