Something is boring a hole in my wood decking - what could it be?
Question:We have a relativly new wood deck and have found fresh sawdust that has fallen out of a hole that has been drilled by something. There is fresh sawdust every morning. The hole is about 1/2 inch across.
Answers:
Carpenter bees can be the problem.
Go to this link and see if the holes look like this if so, then you have carpenter bees.

I've known bees to bore holes in wood before. It could be that.
It's probably a wood boring bee. We have those, too. You can close up the hole with something and kill the bee but you'll still have more bees. I've read the best thing to do is to treat the wood with stain or a sealer, have done that and haven't seen any more in the last year.
Might be a longshot, with little description of the hole, but what about a woodpecker?
No clue. It's definitely not ants. Sounds like you have a mini-Taz on your hands. I would get out the moth balls & wear shoes for a while
It's called a "carpenter bee" and they do it in dry wood and is a good sign you need a preservative of your chose to apply now, even though it's new you don't know how long it's been in the lumber yard, do yourself a favor and treat it, Good luck Les the painter
Try spraying with a strong insecticide inside the hole. If that doesn't work try closing the hole with some kind of putty. Find one soft enough to apply but hard once it is in position. If wood suffers such treatment imagine what a soft putty will be to that little devil!
On any case be extremely careful when applying whatever you decide because usually the little creatures are very vindictive to anyone messing with their nest.
omg sounds like u hav been having visits from mr dewalt with his half inch wood drill bit lmao
