How can I get rid of textured walls I have been told that you can't plaster over it.?
Question:
Answers:
plastering over it is the best solution...
you can use a steamer like a wall paper stripper to soften it and then scrape it off.
sand it down a bit first, then you can plaster over it
yeah you can, take the high spots off with a scraper, then give it a coat of thistle bond, its a green adhesive, about £35 a tub, then multi finish straight on top, i assume that you are a diy-er so let a qualified plasterer do it. dont sand it down, as some of the old artex has asbestos in it.
you can hire a steam machine and steam it off ,but can be messy, or you can get some ready mixed poly right from b,q and apply to your walls like you would plaster, and then paper it or paint it

you can skim over textured walls, also theres a new prouduct which is designed specially for covering walls such as these, go to b&q and ask for further advice
1000 grade backing paper
sand them down, then you can paint over or wallpaper,
know that this ia time consuming and messy.
you could live with the testured walls and just paint them a darker color to help camo them.
usw waincoating on the lower 3/4 of the wall, a simple rail finish and live with whats lef ot the texture which would look pretty great and it not expensive and easwy to do.
or ypu can just have the whole room replaspered which will be expensive, reduce you room domintions slightly, but you get a clean slate.
good luck and have fun. jackie b
Put decorative rock over it, or get panel strips that are decoritive or even plain white then paint it what color you want. You, of course would need to nail & paste panel to wall so it doesn't buckle later.
Yes you can there is a product by Poly cell I believe which is designed to do just what you want and it claims not to need professional skill it comes with it's own applicator
Check out at your local DIY store
Don't use a steamer because if you have old walls it's very easy to blow the plaster
Good Luck
Use a steaming machine to soften it then scrape off. Please do not sand it - some textured stuff has some nasty stuff in it that is definitely bad for your health. You can plaster over it and would probably be the easiest solution.
Scrape the texture off with hot water and a scraper
scrape the high bits off with a scraper. unibond the wall, coat on with bonding. then skim.
easy
I would cover your existing walls with 1/4" or 3/8" sheetrock. You do this using laminating screws ( a special type of sheetrock screw ) to attach the new sheetrock to the old. You will need to do the seams and extend your electrical boxes with some commonly found items at your local builing supply store.
If you go to polycell.co.uk and check out wall and ceiling treatments in the product selector you will find something called smooth over. I've used it on badly cracked walls when i removed my wall paper to paint. And apparently its also good on textured wall too. Hope this helps
go back and tell them it can be plastered over the biggest peaks can be scraped off then it can be skimmed over just had mine done looks miles better
there is a new product out which is called Polycell Smooth Over.
I wouldn't reccomend it for large areas though because it is quite expensive. I am sure that if yuo got in touch with a plasterer they would give you great advice and would be able to sort something out.
you can plaster over textured walls as long as you srape off all the high ridges and coat the wall in a pva / water solution first .
